Immunity-Boosting Iron-Infused Ginger, Lemon & Honey Tea

Immunity-Boosting Iron-Infused Ginger, Lemon & Honey Tea

A soothing, medicinal tea that combines the immunity-boosting properties of ginger, lemon and honey with added iron from the Iron Egg.

Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Serves: 2

Ingredients:

  • 500ml fresh water
  • 1 Iron Egg
  • 30g fresh ginger root (approximately a 5cm piece)
  • 1 lemon
  • 2-3 tablespoons honey, to taste
  • Optional: 1 cinnamon stick
  • Optional: 2-3 cloves

Method:

STEP 1
Pour the water into a small saucepan and add the Iron Egg. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.

STEP 2
Meanwhile, peel the fresh ginger root and crush it using a garlic press directly into the pan. Alternatively, finely grate or mince the ginger.

STEP 3
Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice from one half into the pan. Slice the other half into thin rounds and add to the water. If using, add the cinnamon stick and cloves.

STEP 4
Reduce heat to a gentle simmer and let the mixture infuse for 10 minutes, allowing the iron to release from the Iron Egg and the flavours to develop.

STEP 5
Carefully remove the Iron Egg, lemon slices, cinnamon stick and cloves using a slotted spoon.

STEP 6
Allow the tea to cool slightly (to avoid destroying the beneficial enzymes in the honey), then stir in the honey to taste.

STEP 7
Pour into mugs and serve warm. For an extra vitamin boost, you can add a fresh slice of lemon to each mug.

Tips:

  • Drink this tea at the first sign of a cold or when feeling run down for maximum benefit.
  • The vitamin C from the lemon helps your body absorb the iron more effectively.
  • You can store any leftover tea in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours and reheat gently.
  • For a stronger ginger flavour, increase the amount or allow it to steep longer.
  • This tea provides approximately 3mg of iron per serving.
  • For a summer version, allow the tea to cool completely and serve over ice with fresh mint leaves.
